#1 Love Myself UNICEF campaign
Last year, chart-topping South Korean
septet BTS teamed up with UNICEF
Korea for their ‘Love Myself’
anti-violence campaign, and Friday (Nov. 2) it was revealed that the initiative had raised over $1 million.
In a Newsen article, UNICEF Korea shared that the band's support of the campaign raised
over 1.6 billion KRW, or just over $1.4 million USD.
“In the year since UNICEF and BTS
joined together to eradicate violence against children, we have raised over 1.6 billion won,” said UNICEF
Korea in a statement. “During it, they have continued to spread their positive influence, such as
with the UN General Assembly ‘Speak Yourself’ speech.” During the September speech, BTS’ RM
spoke of the importance of youth to assert themselves and follow their
dreams.
"Maybe I made a mistake yesterday, but yesterday’s me is still me. I am
who I am today, with all my faults. Tomorrow I might be a tiny bit wiser, and
that’s me, too. These faults and mistakes are what I am, making up
the brightest stars in the constellation of my life. I have come to love myself
for who I was, who I am, and who I hope to become.''
"Tell me your story. I want to
hear your voice, and I want to hear your conviction.
No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin colour, gender identity:
speak yourself.''
Though it's not updated
in real time -- it currently states that the fund has accumulated 1.15 billion KRW -- the Love Myself website has recorded over 6.7 million uses of the
hashtag #BTSLoveMyself.
